Aaliyah Dana Haaughton rose to prominence after the release of her first album Age Ain't Nothing But an Number in 1994. The album, launched when she was only fifteen years old it went Gold. R. Kelly heavily influenced this collaboration, and helped to bring the artist up to the top of the charts. In the year 1996, Jermaine Durpri along with Timbaland worked together to create her sophomore album One In A Million. It featured the track the song If Your Boyfriend only Knew as the single number one. Aaliyah gained international fame for her R&B vocals through the release of this album. In 2000, she was as a character in Romeo Must Die, a action/romance film starring Jet-Li. Joel Silver, the film producer, saw her during the awards ceremony and kindly offered the role. Queen of the Damned was her debut role in 2002. It is based off an Anne Rice novel. In 2003, she appeared as a character in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. She received four nominations for Grammys, in 1999, 2001 and 2002. Aarti Magnumdar, her professional name, but she is also known as Aarti Magumdar. Though she initially had minor film and TV roles, her acting started to gain momentum around the middle of 2000s. Some of her other notable work are Leverage 2012, Suits 2013, and Grey's Anatomy 2017. The actress has been featured in commercials of major brands such as international automobile manufacturer Volvo. She has a daughter, who lives in Los Angeles and is pursuing acting.
